Six Injured in Tennessee after Collision with CSX train at Notorious, Non-Gated Crossing
(Bartlett, Tennessee – April 17, 2025)
Six passengers in a funeral home limousine were injured after their vehicle was struck by a CSX freight train. The collision occurred last Thursday at the non-gated CSX railroad crossing through the intersection of Bartlett Road and Stage Road. According to reports, the family inside the limousine was being escorted to a funeral when the collision occurred. The escort vehicle was not impacted in the collision.
Records show there have been at least fourteen prior collisions at this crossing. Three of those prior collisions occurred within the last year and seven within the last six years. CSX submitted records also reveal that two trains travel through this crossing daily at typical speeds of 49 mph.
Despite the extremely high collision rate at this crossing it lacks automatic gates to warn motorists in their field of view of an oncoming train. Studies conducted over fifty years ago have proven that the installation of automatic gates can reduce the frequency of collisions by up to two-thirds.
