An El Paso motorist was hospitalized November 2, 2024, after being injured in a vehicle collision with a Union Pacific Railroad freight train. The collision was reported at around 1:26 p.m. Saturday afternoon, and occurred at the intersection of New Haven Drive and Roseway Drive in the Lower Valley.

According to initial reports from the El Paso Fire Dispatch, the motorist involved in the accident sustained life threatening injuries after their pickup truck collided with the Union Pacific train. Emergency personnel were quick to respond to the call and transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The identity and condition of the driver has yet to be released by public officials. A Union Pacific spokesperson has since confirmed the incident and stated that none of the train crew on board were hurt during the collision.

According to Union Pacific submitted records, the double track crossing where this collision took place sees a daily average of 20 trains traveling at speeds up to 79 miles per hour. There has been at least one prior collision at this crossing. While the Union Pacific crossing is equipped with lights and gates, it is not known if they were properly functioning at the time of the collision.

The El Paso Police Department is still investigating the cause of this collision.
