(Deshler, Ohio – April 8, 2012)
A 24-year-old Findley, OH YMCA Child Development Center worker, Amanda Grose, was seriously injured early Easter Sunday morning, April 8, and died from her injuries at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital Monday after she was struck by a Norfolk Southern freight train at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of NS railroad tracks and Township Road 3 near Deshler,OH.
The victim was driving south when she was struck by the train at the crossing, which is marked only by standard railroad crossbuck signs and has no automatic protective devices such as flashing lights, gates or bells to prevent such tragedies. Ms. Grose was airlifted to the hospital following the collision.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, which investigated the tragedy, confirmed that the crossing was equipped only with passive signage.
