The Portland Oregonian announced, Tuesday, facts concerning the Portland Region Mass Transit Agency (TriMet) cover-up of a serious accident that occurred in October when a TriMet light rail passenger train collided with a concrete barrier at the end-of-track at a terminal.
A TriMet bus driver and blogger who posted a video of the costly accident was placed on leave, as was the operator of the train. The operator’s suspension resulted from the crash, but the bus driver was punished because he dared share a video of an accident of which investigation was incomplete, according to TriMet. The bus driver has since taken down the video.
A couple of passengers on board the train when the accident occurred were unhurt but damage to the train resulted in costs of $25,000 to $50,000. Yet, there is still no explanation of TriMet’s downplaying of the accident as a “minor service disruption.”
