Two Injured At Dangerous, Unguarded Norfolk Southern Crossing
(Spartanburg, South Carolina – October 10, 2011)
Two people in a pickup truck were transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries after their vehicle was hit by a Norfolk Southern freight train about 8:00 P.M. Monday night. The train struck the vehicle as the driver attempted to cross Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of Southport Road in southwest suburban Spartanburg, SC.
The Southport Road crossing has no electronic protection such as lights, gates or bells, and instead relies on passive railroad crossbuck signs to identify the presence of a railroad crossing. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Croft, SC Fire Dept. and Pacolet, SC Police responded to the accident.
