Teenager Seriously Injured At Dangerous, Unguarded Crossing

An as-yet unidentified teenager received serious injuries early Monday morning about 7:25 A.M. when the victim’s car attempted to cross Union Pacific Railroad tracks at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of Rock Road in Jonesboro, AR. The eastbound car was demolished by the southbound train as it was dragged 40 feet before it dislodged from the train.
The Rock Road crossing has no lights, bells or gates, and depends totally upon passive railroad crossbuck signs to warn motorists of the presence of railroad tracks. Meanwhile, a grove of trees shields the eastbound motorist’s view of southwest-bound trains. The teen victim had to be cut out of the car’s wreckage and was then airlifted to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
