Friends, Neighbors, Co-Workers Rally To Support Horribly-Injured BNSF Employee
(Fort Worth, Texas – May 26, 2011)
A benefit to raise cash, checks, gift cards, gas cards, get-well cards and support posters was held last night at The Alliance Community Fellowship Church in support of badly-injured Burlington Northern Santa Fe yard foreman Paul Young, who suffered the loss of both legs and his left arm in a railroad accident Monday night.
Young, 28, married and the father of two sons, ages 6 and 3, was performing a difficult switching maneuver when his own train ran over the fourth-generation railroader. Although Young may be out of the hospital in two weeks, he faces at least seven surgeries on his wounds. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that “Since 2002 in Tarrant County, there have been 111 accidents or incidents involving trains, resulting in 52 injuries. Statewide during the same period, 501 workers have been injured, according to the Federal Railroad Administration.
